So I'm happy about that because they actually the NFL struck a deal with Pat Riley because he owns the rights to three-peat and so I think he made like 600K. If they made merch right, Losers, Losers Suck it. So I'm happy they didn't win. Did you guys watch Super Bowl?

Speaker 1I'm going to check in with you, kev, because the first episode back you stated you were starting the Ozempic journey.
Speaker 3We started some Oz.
Speaker 3So this is a check-in on episode two, I think this is like what we're like three weeks since our last recording. That's our cadence. It's been pretty good, you know, I'm eating less, you know, and don't have much cravings as I do, which is great, you know. But I definitely think if anyone's like interested in doing it, it's like it's definitely a thing you should try out, because what they're doing with medicine now is insane. Like it's just before I would come home from work. I'm like, oh man, I'm freaking. I'm hungry, you know, even though you know I might have eaten like two hours ago or something, but I come home I don't feel hungry, I don't feel like man, I need a cheese burger.
Speaker 3You know what I mean. But it's just, you know, know it's kind of changing the way I'm like thinking about food now, which is pretty insane, because before, if I felt hungry, I wouldn't eat, you know what I mean Whereas this kind of helps me suppress it down a little bit and I could wait two more hours, you know what I mean. Or like, oh, it's lunchtime, you know what. Like, oh, it's lunchtime, you know what I let me finish my work and then, and then I'll do it, you know. So it's so far it's been really good. We've had some progress. We're not going to reveal that just yet, probably later on, when we get something really nice going on, but we do see some improvement and it's pretty insane. So I'm interested to see. We're going to be upping our dose soon, so we'll see how it goes.
Men and Pilates Trend Discussion

So, bouncing off that, we were actually talking about other trends going on in fitness and the one thing I was scrolling on my I was scrolling on my TikToks and there's, I guess, more creators now female creators talking about, or fitness creators talking about how they don't like it when men are in their Pilates class. It's like a growing thing now, but I don't think they understand that a man made Pilates. What's his name? Joe Pilates, joe Pilates, but it's like a thing I don't understand. I don't understand. I mean, I get it. It's supposed to be A female energy space, but it's like, dude, it's Pilates. If you're a guy watching this or listening to this episode Right now, and if you're interested In a different type of workout That'll help your stabilizer muscles, pilates is a big thing. Have you guys tried it?
Speaker 2Yeah, so I personally have not. I've been avoiding it, but my girlfriend and one of my friends, his wife, they're trying to get us to go to a Pilates class, like all the time. Where, which one?

We invited Mo to get on the show because he's been a longtime client of ours and I wanted him to share, you know, his journey because he started, you know, training with me for a bit. And Mo again, welcome, welcome, welcome, just chilling here with us, and, yeah, I'll let you. You know, start with how you, how did you find us actually?
Speaker 2Yeah, so I had moved here from LA at the time and I wanted to get, so I had come. So in LA I was at another gym called the Camp.
Speaker 3Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2So, yeah, y'all have seen that like workout, so it was a great great program at the time and it was just like what was it? It's like you paid some money and if I kept losing weight like I kept getting free membership. You got it Gotcha, yeah, yeah, yeah you know, and then if I hit my goal weight, they give me my money back. So I'm like oh, free gym right, bro, you're never going to hit those goals.
Speaker 1Well, what do they have you? Okay, what do they put you at? That's kind of wild.
Speaker 2So they gave me like a BMI right and I was basically like, okay, you got to lose like 30 pounds here, gave me like a diet thing. Um, like I still even have the, uh, the book right and it's just like all and like again, if you, if you do it, that's great, like if what works for you may not work for someone else.
Speaker 2Um, it was like working out almost five, six days a week right you had to like sign into the classes and then you had you had to stay on the diet if you wanted to actually get the losses from it. Right and like. The big part about like the diet is you know it's very it was very keto, right, so it was reading like that. But there were days where it was just like, oh, you know, I'm having trouble like getting some weight off, because that's how weight loss works right, you can't just lose all your weight at once.
Speaker 3And there's like oh you know.

Speaker 2Pounds and you do that, right I see so the first month worked great for me I was like down like 25 pounds and I was like, yeah, I'm like so strong and I like work out every day, uh-huh. And you're like great, you have another month of that. I was like oh you're like and then that's when I like, I started like feeling like the real, like I can't keep this up forever, right, you know? And then I didn't hit my goal that month. And they're like oh, you're in the fuel this month. So I found another job and I left LA.

I was back when we sold mochi donuts during the pandemic and I saw mochi donuts during the pandemic.

Speaker 2Yeah, like in la and then eventually found a new job. You did that whole thing right, yeah. Like in LA, and then eventually found a new job, came out here and I for the first couple months wasn't going to a gym and then I was like, all right, let me look for another gym. And you know, there's like all the the camp was back right. I was like I could just rejoin the camp Easy peasy right. Luckily it was too far for me to drive. So sorry, so sorry the camp.
Speaker 4Love you all, but like I don't think, I I didn't have the discipline for it uh, still don't.
Speaker 2Um. So like I just wanted to go to a gym that was like a little bit more like casual. So like I went, looked at some gyms and you know some normal chains, right, you know some the planet fitness, you know like looked at all those and I was like, ah, I didn't really want that, cause I still can't make a workout for myself, right.
Speaker 2Um, and then I went to Austin gym because it was like very nerdy themed and I'm like yes, perfect, like go in and you know, at the time it was in that like space, that was kind of like a warehouse looking kind of bro. Yeah, first location, yeah yeah, had like the zelda shield up yeah you have like link shield up there you have like a bunch of really cool, like artwork everywhere, and I was like yeah, this is it this is it? Oh, yeah, yeah, so and then I was like, yeah, let's try it out, and it was a good price at the time.
Speaker 1And now hey, man barrier, oh yeah.
Speaker 2Bay Area. Nah, it was good, it was close enough to home, I could hit it before I, you know in the mornings and yeah it was great.
Speaker 1And where'd you, where'd you start and where you are now?
Speaker 2so had a couple ups and downs. Right, I think I joined you around 350, 350 347 350 something like that is when I first started. Um fell off the train. Um hit like three 93 ish, three 95. Um, and then now this is like a, a saga of what, of what like five, six years almost yep, yeah. So now, um I'm at 235, um yeah so 235, maybe 237, hopefully not 240 but yeah, we'll see, that's amazing that's amazing hopping around that range in the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 1Nice, yeah, dude it, dude, it's, it's progress. Yeah, it's awesome.
Speaker 2Crazy. Yeah, a lot of it has been over the last um, because I was actually looking at some pictures, um, and I think it was like two, three years ago was when I was at like my heaviest, so, and then I started taking it really seriously, like two years ago, nice, yeah, so three years ago I was like I'll eventually get to it and then actually had a really bad breakup which is what prompted me to like oh, that was, that was right, huh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2I mean yeah, yeah. So I had a really bad breakup and like that was kind of not like prompted it, but it was like the final straw where I was just like you went to through your villain arc. Yeah, because I was like there's so many things that contribute to weight loss, right? So you know it's part of your like emotional and mental state and like actually losing the weight, like and getting motivated to do it. It's really tough.
Speaker 3Right.
Speaker 2So there were a lot of reasons why I wanted to, and for some reason, nothing was like enough for me, right? It wasn't like I didn't. Really, you know, I was so depressed I was like, ah, who cares about being healthy? Right.
Speaker 2And I, like you know, I was happy just like sitting around playing video games, like I almost had like no furniture in my place too, right, so I literally was down to just do nothing but like eat, play video games, go to the gym and say I worked out, yeah, I'm like call it a day, right. So like I'm already. Like at that point I was really depressed. So I was like, okay, well, like you know what's gonna like make me want to lose weight. And then it just happened to be like, oh, I'm just like my self-image is horrible, right. And then that breakup was like I'm tired of like having a bad self-image of myself, right, because this person didn't really treat me well. And I was just like, oh, it's because I just don't look good or whatever, and even though that's not the reason you should lose weight. At the time, that was enough to help me get started and really figure, I don't want to ever have to go through this again. So it was cool. So thank you.
Speaker 3I mean, that's some good self-awareness though. Yeah, like I think that's what sometimes we lack is, uh, being able to look ourselves in the mirror and say like I know what the problem is and I just got to do it, you know. So that's commendable.
Speaker 1It was a good tipping point. I mean, it's a. So how has the experience been now versus before? You lost the weight, Do you see people treating you differently? Do you think about yourself differently? All that stuff.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's like, there's like a couple of things to unpack there.
Speaker 4Yeah, right.
Speaker 2So one of the like big things that like there's a bunch of science about and you know, it's like first impressions and like what people think of you when they first see you and a lot of that is like OK, you're a bigger person, like what do I see about you, right? So yeah, first impressions for me have 100 percent changed. So yeah, first impressions for me have a hundred percent changed. And like the way like I interact with people and the way that people actually interact with me is different more more so than how I interact with them.
Speaker 2Um, I get a different like vibe, a different energy, Right? Um, people like, like one of the big things and I noticed this a lot in LA is like I would go out alone because I didn't have too many friends and stuff and like I would always think that someone was like staring at me, Right, Because. I was just like. So big Turns out like when you're actually that big like nobody wants to like look at you.
Speaker 2Like, because they don't want to be rude, right, right. So it was like actually like having like conversations with people, like sometimes it was just like, yeah, I can make like direct eye contact with you and whatever, but like sometimes people just don't want to be in that conversation. Um, you know, so like there are just these little like tiny things that you can like kind of notice and it it like it's a little isolating. So nowadays it feels a lot different like being, and the other half of that I think I touched on was like my own self image, right.
Speaker 2So, um, if you noticed a lot of the things that I was saying is like I, I, I, I right, because you live in your head and um, when, at least when I was bigger, um, I like always felt that, you know, I had this paranoia of like being bigger and like what people thought about me, right beyond like what the science says and whatever like your doctors can tell you, right, so my self-image was really bad and it was, I think, night and day.
Speaker 2One of the biggest things that I like looked at was like how I would dress and like it was all sweatpants and, yeah, these really big jeans, right like they wouldn't really fit right and the clothes, like I would order clothing that was just like way bigger, just so that I could like fit in it and kind of like hide some stuff in, right, and it was like not form flattering and it wasn't. It really wasn't doing me any favors and that's like the other thing. Like I just didn't care about myself enough, right? So nowadays, like I'm still not the best dressed, but I like take a lot more time and like getting prepared and like I'm actually excited to like go clothing shopping, like uh, actually this is like a new one for me.
Speaker 2So, um, before I used to only order clothes online or I would go to, like you know, a casual male xl, which is not a casual experience at all, very, very, very uh like anxiety inducing, um, because you're like, oh my god, what if I don't fit into something at the casual male xl? But you always will, you always will like, but you never know. Um, so like, uh, I think like a couple of weeks ago I went into a Macy's for like was it a Macy's, I don't know, it was this department store for like the first time in years and I was looking for some clothing for an event I was going to and I was afraid nothing was going to fit me and like, everything fit.
Speaker 2Oh shit, that I went to try on, yeah yeah, yeah, except the things that, like you were in, were clearly not my size, right, um, but I mean that was fine, like I used to only fit into like a 4xl or like a 5xl right, and I was like, oh, this xl is just a little bit too tight right, or, like you know, I can go into the 2x, but I think some of them are way too big and loose.
Speaker 2So it's like it was pretty like crazy to me because before it was like I can only shop at this one store. Right Now I can actually shop around. Yeah, I actually have a bunch of Lululemon hoodies that like they were still a little too tight um a couple of months ago and I started wearing them like the last like two, three weeks, because I lost another like 25 pounds and I was like, oh my gosh, he's like fit, like I can wear Lululemon like comfortably now, like before it was just a little too tight, nice. So I think like all these little joys that I'm finding like from my body now have been like really helping with my self-image and when that happens, the way you like carry yourself in public changes too, so professionally.
Speaker 2I feel like it's helped me a lot, and this isn't just like I've worked at the same place for five years. So like people have seen me and they're like, okay, like whatever, like Mo looks different because he lost some weight, but like I'm more comfortable to have conversations with people that like don know me right, and I'm okay to like speak up in rooms where before I like kind of just didn't want to be noticed and, um, like you know, I started actually doing like. So, like I got into my first conference recently and like I'm more I'm more nervous about like my actual content than I am about like showing up on stage, which was like where I used to be afraid of you know you're presenting at a conference.

Speaker 2Yeah, so, um, the title is in progress, Um, but it would essentially be about um building a security program that is, uh, structured around like AI risk management.

And then how can I inform really good fixes and how do we like make sure that people can't really break in as easily and where can we like put some more defense for this application?
Speaker 1yeah, if you were to give the average person advice using their phones. What's one thing they shouldn't do from a security perspective?
Speaker 2yeah, um austin loves tiktok wow, wow yeah, no, it's just why look, look for your, look at your footprint. Uh, honestly, like that's like a big one, like data is the name of the game now. So it's like the more your data is out there, the more people have on you.
Speaker 2So you know, like I'm not gonna say, oh man, you know, like people are gonna hack you through this app, like people are gonna social engineer you through this app, like people are going to social engineer you and you know that's like where you're actually going to get popped or, you know, exploited. So it's not so much through an app, it's more through a series of like OK, where, what do I push? What buttons are the right ones to get Austin really interested in clicking this link?
Speaker 2You know or like, like, how can I emotionally get this person invested in like what I'm about to say, right, um, is it, like, do I tempt them with, like an offer that they would not want to say no to? Do I tell them someone in their family's in danger? Right, so, like, how do I like get you like hooked? Right, how can I get you? Um, what's the easiest way for me to get you to send me money?
Speaker 2even though you've never met me, you know right if I told you that, like your mom was in the hospital and like she's got 20 minutes, unless we can get uh money for, like you know, to actually get her to the next place and the insurance isn't going through, so like we can't, like this carrier will not go anywhere right, and like you say, hang on, let me like verify. No, no, we have no time. Like you can't call your mom right now that's pretty crazy right.
Speaker 2Like some of these people are like very aggressive with like right, so you know you, you never know, like what it is. And like you know, on youtube there's a bunch of youtubers that like show like all the those phishing schemes. Yeah, yeah, you know all we want to fix your computer and stuff. Yeah, it's the same type of thing, right? So, like for anyone, it would just be watch your footprint. Stay really cognizant and remember. If it's like important enough for you that someone's trying to rush you through it, like take a step back and say, okay, well, like this doesn't really make sense, let me validate it myself.

Speaker 2me yeah, um no, but there was this one time where my social security number was used to purchase a car shut up yeah, um, ironically, it was not because, like, I was bad at doing what I did, right, it was the vendor. So, like the Toyota dealership, toyota.

Speaker 2That yeah. I'm calling y'all out the dealership that I went to. They were using autocomplete to fill in customer information and someone had the exact same name as me. And instead of like taking their information, they auto filled it with mine. Wow, so out of nowhere, one day I'm driving home and I just see something. Congratulations on your rav, your rav4 2018 purchase, and I'm like the what oh, so I do you just call them over what?
Speaker 2I do. No, it was months. Months, because I was like this is not my car, I want it off of my record. Like you know, I needed to send them a ton of information I need to send them you know like, hey, like this is like a packet of information.
Speaker 2I need to call every single credit bureau. I had to do all these things right and since then it's just been. It was. It was just like crazy at that point in time. Now I like always keep a freeze on um. If I know like I'm going to be doing, like if I go get a new credit card, I'll like unfreeze my account, but that's like the only time I leave it unfrozen, gotcha you know, it's just crazy yeah like some of sometimes it's not your fault that like something happens, it's.
Speaker 2It might be someone else. You. With all the data breaches that happen. Yeah, yeah, yeah, so yeah it's just be as good to yourself as you can Look for your footprint, Do digital cleanups for yourself. There are a bunch of services out there that do it for you too, but yeah, definitely that's one. Just be mindful of your data and your footprint and where you exist in the internet Are you familiar with Deleteme, because I hear a lot about that.

So, like when I was first starting to lose weight, actually, the first thing I did was like I was really big into into photography and I decided like, ok, well, I'm going to go up this mountain so I can take some pictures, right, and like, literally, that's like how I actually started walking Nice. So I'd be like, ok, let me take walks around the block, let me start taking walks, like, up some hills, you know, let me. And I think the first one that I went to because I didn't want to go alone. I signed up for a meetup to go do a hike in del veil, I think, right, is that what it's called? Um, but I went there and like, like there was the whole group that was walking right and I actually walked in the opposite direction because I knew I'd beat them at the peak, oh shit. But I needed to like do it at my own pace, right, and I didn't want a bunch of people who are way more fit than me every like 20 what's happening here?

Speaker 2so now I don't really know, like, what I want to do. I think so in terms of weight, I have another 30 pounds, like 200 is actually like the goal weight for me, wow with 199 being like the like platinum trophy gs5 level right nice um, for me being like oh wow, I'm finally under 200, um, I think 300 was a huge one for me, though, like to be fair, like yeah 300 was insane.
Speaker 2I had not been under 300 since high school. Um, yeah, so that was huge. Um, I think, like my sophomore year of high school is when I first found out I was three, 10, and then I'd never been below that. Um, I think in college I hit below it. I hit like two, 90, but I was doing like this crazy stupid diet. I would never do it again because right after I stopped it I inflated. Yeah, um, but yeah, yeah. So my next big one is hit 200 and then, um, I think, like, in terms of like things I want to do, like the weight loss part, I haven't like found, uh, like an activity that I really just like want to hit.
Speaker 2Like you know, like for a while, I want to do spartan sprints yeah but, I'm just like I don't know if I really like I don't know if I'm really interested, you can totally do one. I mean, I maybe you know no, you can I mean, maybe I could you know, but I just it, I don't know. It like hasn't motivated me enough, like I've seen people do it like maybe I do it as a group, like if you, if you do one, I'll do one, you know well, we're planning a team one. Okay, well, like the gym I, like you know, I a sprint, I'd do it.
Speaker 1Yeah, spartan sprint, I would do one and I would I want to do one in the stadium, the they usually have one in at&t, oh, at&t um. Is it still called at&t?
Speaker 3part you're talking about giants yeah what's it have an AT&T sprint.
Speaker 1It's pretty chill. We did it as a gym years ago and it was pretty fun because at the end you like run to home base. But yeah, I'll let you know, yeah.
Starting a Gentleman's Run Club
Speaker 2I'd be down to do one. And I know my partner she runs a lot, so she's like she was in, like she was in I don't know if she's still in it, but she's in a run club like weekly, does like those events too. So I was like, yeah, maybe I could like try and do one. And you know, every time she invites me I'm like, oh yeah, I'm training for it.
Speaker 1We actually might start a run club. You just reminded me we might start a run club. Well, no, we might, we are a run club.
Speaker 3Huh, a gentleman's run club. Huh, a gentleman's run club. A, what A?
Speaker 1gentleman's run club. A gentleman's run club. No, we're going to start a run club at AGCO, one of our members. I offered it to her because she always wanted to do it. I was supposed to meet with her Saturday, but kids. But we're putting together a beginner-friendly run club.

Speaker 2That's cool, that's awesome, I think cycling is a big one that I'm going to get into though.

Speaker 2Jose. So like it's just a day of riding bikes and, you know, getting out in the streets with rollerblades and stuff. So I do that every single time it comes around yeah. It is the most fun. I'm usually like riding for like 10, 15 miles, like I'm doing it for like a couple laps, that's cool. Every time I come back to train in with Gabe I'm like yo my legs are dead.
Speaker 1What have you been doing with Gabe? Like what other training modalities?
Speaker 2So I mean Gabe can speak to it more.
Speaker 1so Because I haven't trained in a couple of weeks.
Speaker 4Yeah, it's all good it happens.
Speaker 2But like we do like mixed stuff, you know, like I know like I've been giving Gabe a bunch of crap Like yo, I want to do like more like cardio, intense, like heart rate, like get my heart rate bumping Less, focused on some of the like muscle stuff, yeah, but yeah no, I mean that's kind of like where I was, like I want to build like more endurance and more. You want a.

Speaker 1Nice. He just chills on you.
Speaker 2You're just he doesn't chill on me, but like so I actually uh, I like he'll sit next to me in the chair, like he's not like when I first got him super into. Like, oh, I want to be like on mo, I want to sit near mo, yeah, yeah, I remember you know, you told me about that, and then after like I don't know what happened, he's into puberty years.
Speaker 3Um cannot stand me, yeah and like when I come home from work.
Speaker 2He'll roll around and everything right and I'll think he'll like, want to hang out for, like the the rest night. Nope, I'll just go sit back on the chair, I'll sit next to him and then he'll be like whatever I get up, go grab some water, he's sitting in my chair, wow.
Speaker 1That's the kind of character.
Speaker 3Dominance, rebellion, rebellion. I love it.
Speaker 2You're my pin now, bro know, two hours later he'll be like, yeah, I'll sit right in that spot. Puberty time, puberty time. Yeah, damn, go to sleep. He'll watch me sit on the bed Like, like you know, lay in the bed. He'll jump up on the bed, attack my feet Run. I wake up at like 2 am. You know, get some water turns out. He's right there, sleeping right next to me that's how it is, though yeah, he doesn't know how to play fetch now, really.
Speaker 2Yeah, just the first half, though, like I'll throw something and he'll jump in the air and get it and then he'll leave it there and I have to go, that's enough, you fetch me now, yeah, dude.
Speaker 1Well, to close this episode out. What is what is an episode? What is an episode? What is that advice you would give someone who may be in the similar shoes as you just starting, and all that yeah, oh yeah.
Speaker 2So like we missed like a whole big portion of, like, the medical assisted part right, yeah um so, um, you know, I was on um ozempic and then I was also on something called Kismia Q-Y-S-M-I-A. You remember that era? Because it was basically a narcotic and they would only let me take it for 30 days.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, I remember that, because you had to get weaned off too.
Speaker 2Yeah, because you'd basically take it and I forget what's in it, but basically the first part of it is an appetite suppressant, right, but when you have an appetite suppressant you need food to like actually keep up your energy. So the other half, I forget what it was, but man, it was just like it would get me going and like you have to take it in the mornings because if you take it any later you're not going to be able to sleep. I'd go to the gym with Austin and work out. I'd be like austin I need more yeah, I remember this.
Speaker 2He would like me, but I am so fatigued like I would just be hyped up.
Speaker 2You'd be wired bro like yeah, dude so only for 30 days, like all that stuff worked and so like the biggest advice, right one, work with your doctor and like figure the medications out right. If you decide you want to go like the medical way, which is how I started, it's great. But the thing that I noticed because I also hit Ozempic and I was on that for four months I only lost 30 pounds on Ozempic in that four months and the only reason why I lost no weight on Ozempic is because I had horrible discipline and I would still eat horribly Even though I had horrible discipline and I would still eat horribly. Even though I was eating less, I was still eating bad. So the other big part was I actually started the weight loss thing like in therapy, so like I made sure I was going to a therapist looking at my relationship with food and really untangling that.
Speaker 2So before I even like because there was a break between when I was working out with Austin- and I had this break where I wasn't doing anything and then I was like I worked out with Austin again During that break. I just went to a therapist and I focused on like figuring that out. And then I figured out okay, well, let me go to a doctor and like figure out, like what my blood's like, how my glucose is doing Like, cause I was pre-diabetic at the time and moved into you know a bad place, um, with like sugar. So you know I had to be on metformin and all these other medications. So I needed to see like what my baseline was for my own health.
Speaker 2And then I want and when I ultimately wanted to lose weight, it was okay, I want to restrict calorie like heavily, so what's the safest I can do it, and my doctor had to walk me through that, right. So it's like okay, well, like this is the lowest you can go safely. I wanted to still work out. Okay, this is what you can do while working out. This is the amount of weight that you can lose per week healthily, right? So we had to set all of these different like markers and baselines for me and I actually took um six weeks off of work.
Speaker 2So, when I first decided like this, was it? I requested six weeks PTO and medical leave and I was like I'm not going to go to work, I'm not going to be exposed to food in the cafe, I don't want any crazy stressors to come up, I just want to focus on my weight loss. And did that. And coming back to work, I said I want to be remote as possible, like as remote as possible, so I could control the food and my intake. And when I started coming back to office, I was cooking for myself because I really wanted to be careful. Um, so, yeah, it's, it's in stages. It takes a really long time, um, but it's a mental game first, first, then it's a kitchen game second, and the working out is like a cherry on top where, like, you start working on the physicality, for me at least, um, but it was making sure I could, like, stay healthy within my calories and then go forward from there that was beautifully said amazing I appreciate you sharing all that anytime, no dude, really big process no, thank you.

Speaker 2People who are listening to it right now you don't even know, but there's gonna be someone out there who'd be like damn, I need to hear that yeah, um, I mean like for yeah, yeah, I don't, I don't know really what to say because like I was the person that needed to hear that a couple years ago, right, um, and like there's so much listening and like consuming podcasts and listening to health content and actually watching health content, like I would do that all the time, right, and you think you're healthy because you have all this knowledge, like yeah, but like dude you gotta do it, you have to do it it's like what's my first step?
Speaker 2so like sometimes your first step is walking downstairs. You know, sometimes your first step is like I think for me I lived in like this block, so like it was a quarter, a quarter mile, so I would just do quarter miles once a day and then I would move from there. So, yeah, take your first step, whatever. That is Nice.

Speaker 2There's one thing I forgot to say. Go say it One thing Real, say it so a big. And this is tying it back to, like my professional working thing, right? So I promised I would say this to someone else. But back when I lived in Texas right, it's when I was still heavy and eating really horrible fried food there was this movement starting in information security, because IT professionals and like computer people are just like we have this stereotype for being these bigger beardy people you know, and that's not the case.
Speaker 2Like, we have all different shapes, sizes, bodies, but one very common thread is being unhealthy and sedentary. It's just a huge thing, right? So when I was first starting to, like you know, get into health, this dude in security started this trend called Red Team Fit and it was for, like, penetration testers and everything, and it wasn't a whoop. I forgot what it was, but it was a bracelet, whatever. The first gen was in like 2016, 2017. But, like, that was like the first thing that I saw.
Speaker 2So, like, if you're an information security, like, please, like, stay healthy. Like we don't need to carry around the bad stereotype at all. Like we, we, we are fit nerds. We are like, no matter where you are. So, like you know, and and it's all about longevity too right, yes, I'm gonna say this for everybody who works in tech in the bay area. Right, I know you make a bag, I know you do. I'm looking right at you. You want longevity for your family. You want to be able to do good things for the world. Like you, you need you need to be healthy to do that and, um, I mean just like losing the weight. Like the big thing for me wasn't just being able to, uh like, wear smaller clothes.
Speaker 2Um, I live in a place with stairs and like walking up the stairs is so crazy but I didn't know how like hard stairs were until, like, I had to walk stairs. Like stairs are easy walking and having conversations, walking one-on-ones with um people that I work with is so much better and it's a much easier experience, um, and just being able to do these small things, you know, even walking, meeting, the meeting like, and just being able to have that ease, knowing that like, um, my, you know, as a, as a black male, we have, um, there's like this, uh, like we have a higher risk for cardiovascular disease right knowing that I've like decreased my chance of cardiovascular disease by almost 30 because of the amount of weight that I lost is like crazy.
